In my limited experience, I have found that women are much better liars than men, from a very early age. They pick their spots, tell them quite casually, and give no signals. This is particularly true when telling men how wonderful they are, asking about their hobbies, laughing at their stories, and so on. But they are also brilliant deep liars, telling complete falsehoods, often to themselves. Most of the men I know give themselves away, their lies are pathetically obvious or cliches, and they enjoy telling them too much if they are good at them. Irish men are reputed to be the best liars, but (speaking as someone of this heritage) they tell the truth so seldom that they undermine their credibility from the outset. I have not known any Irish women (except my mother) in any detail, and my mother never told a lie in her life, as far as I know. But I imagine an Irish woman on the prowl would make a spectacular liar. I would certainly enjoy meeting one. [He now puts on his plutonium-resistant outfit]
