thanx Open Mike for the rest of the info. This is something close to my heart and partial Roma heritage. I would also recommend a book called "Bury Me Standing" by Isabel Fonseca (1996) which is a well written chronicle/history of the European Roma esp. since the fall of the Soviet Union. Not a pretty picture but a testament to the continuing survival and struggle of a rich culture.

Also a National Film Board docu-production (Canada) called 'Opre Roma' which features some gifted refugees as well as Ronald Lee, Los Canesteros, Julia Lovell, and more.... all folks who I'm honoured to call friends...
