Accessible to the Washington DC area, there are now 4 shanty sings, each in different weeks. One in Wheaton Maryland, one in Baltimore Maryland, one in Annapolis Maryland and one in Falls Church Virginia.

The Ships Company Shantymen (connected with the USS Constellation in Baltimore Harbor), Janie Meneeley, Caryl P. Weiss, Pyrates Royale (who do concerts and Rennaisance Faires), Calico Jack (a duet specializing in original music, often about the Chesapeake Bay area), and Letter Of Marque are among the local performers who do the music. There's also a Pirate themed restaurant in Silver Spring Maryland that has appropriately costumed bands play there.

Some of the performers are in more than one band.

A thriving folklore Society and several concert series and house concert sites draw out of town visits from the likes of Pint & Dale, Lou Killen, Geoff Kauffman, Bob Zentz, Danny Spooner, Tom Lewis, The Johnson Girls and Andrew McKay & Carole Etherton.

A good area to be in for maritime music.
