I hate the word Chav, both because of its etymology and because it seems like another stick with which to beat the working classes. Yes, there are yobs and louts in every town, but when kids at public schools are having Chav Parties, it's not really very nice. This was a good article:

In any case, the term Chav seems to be a bit passe now, which is a good thing IMHO.
