Hi Pete...........Brief side note from an Ohioan............Toledo IS a boring ass place although the town does have its charms and has undergone several facelifts in the past 20 years or so. Still its main claims to fame are as the home of Toledo Scale Corp. and as the home of Cpl. Klinger (Jamie Farr) on M*A*S*H. But I don't think the folks there had much of a sense of humor about this song.

About 30 years ago, when this song first came out, there was a local talk show out of Cincinnati that was shown on sister stations in Dayton, Columbus, Indianapolis, and Toledo. It was on WLW-TV and was the "Ruth Lyon's 50-50 Club." Her "second banana" took over after age an illness took its toll, a guy named Bob Braun. One of Braun's regulars was pseudo-folksinger named Rob Ryder and one day he sang "Toledo Ohio." Everybody thought it was a laugh except the Toledo audience who went NUTS!!! They boycotted WLW and hired attorneys to sue everyone in sight and it took a LOT of talking and apologizing to cool them off. The "50-50 Club" did a 2 week broadcast from Toledo icluding tours and local guests. Rob Ryder, who had been quite popular and a real fixture on the show, just kinda' slowly disappeared, never to be heard from again.
