Subject: RE: Religious Songs That Speak To You
Azizi,

I have sung several of your favorites in my church's gospel choir -- and even done the solo in most of them, as not many of the women in the choir have solo-quality voices. That's how I know this: You have great taste!

I just wanted to mention that my all-time favorite to sing (though not necessarily my favorite song) of those you mentioned is "Peace Be Still." In fact, I liked it so much that I conned the choir leader into letting me reinsert the original second and third verses of the song (as written by Mary A. Baker in 1874 as "Master the Tempest Is Raging," according to the Cyberhymnal) so that the solo part would be longer. You didn't post those verses in this thread, so I thought I would:

Master, with anguish of spirit I bow in my grief today.
The depths of my sad heart are troubled, O waken and save, I pray.
Torrents of sin and of anguish sweep o'er my sinking soul
And I perish! I perish, dear Master: O hasten, and take control.

Master, the terror is over, the elements sweetly rest.
The sun in the calm lake is mirrored, and Heaven's within my breast.
Linger, O blessed Redeemer; leave me alone no more,
And with joy I shall make the blest harbor, and rest on that blissful shore.

Cheers,
Claire
