Well, I think in this context it probably means people who are playing various forms of manipulative and competitive mind games with one another via an Internet forum, and thereby seeking some form of illusory satisfaction by achieving momentary dominance over those they disagree with. Short term gratification, at best! They're busy winning battles that don't matter and which should never have been fought. That would be my guess. (?)
