My Russian sister-in-law makes a kick ass Red Velvet Cake, from a recipe she alleges is from Saveur magazine, which cites a Brooklyn bakery as the source.

When they vacationed in North Carolina last fall, she sampled some fancy restaurant versions of it (she loves the stuff), but claimed not to like it as well as her recipe.
