I don't think he was ever suggesting an American attack on the nation-state of Pakistan. I think he was suggesting some sort of limited military strikes against Al-Queda operations located inside Pakistan...meaning in the tribal areas just south of Aghanistan. Seems to me that that has already been done on occasion anyway, has it not? In other words, he was not in fact suggesting anything very unusual or radical under present circumstances.
