I got rid of Quicktime years ago and use VLC Media Player for most videos (PC not Mac, of course), Flash movies, etc. It hasn't requested an update yet.

I too hate all these childish apps on FaceBook, but had to get rid of most of my "friends" to stop their requests. But I did come across groups with useful technical and other information for my library work, so I'm staying with it for the moment--but I don't use my real name!
