I haven't heard the remake, but my take on it is that maybe it's an attempt to keep the song current. I'd be all for that if it helps to spread the word , raise awareness. People like it -- except for me and I do agree with the message. The idea is worthy.
There was scope for hand waving and swaying when I heard it sung but it's not a dance tune.
Songs of this type are usually sung to the converted -- in my experience -- and I've had a bit.
They have their uses. I believe their value is to unify people and help them stay strong. I'm basing that idea on experience. I've stood in front of a few bulldozers, in my time, leading singing.   However -- and this is again a personal comment -- in a concert venue the song has to be good -- as a song -- if I'm going to stick around. It's like, "everyone hug each other" and I'm quietly off, and out the back, hugging the few people who have got out before me.
