Quarter sawn sycamore (or 'maple') was used for the reed pans in most vintage concertinas.

PEG is also used as a laxative called Movicol - I know as I have to take it. My insides may not be quite as old as the Mary Rose, but are beautifully preserved - all except the pancreas which is rotten to the core :o((
