I'd hate it if the country I lived in was one where guns were more widely owned and easier to get hold of - but I doubt very much if that kind of thing makes much difference to the number of suicides. There are other ways of doing it readily available, as in this sad case.

Here's a link to suicide statistics for a range of countries - it varies greatly and the US is somewhere in the middle range. But there doesn't seem to be any particular relationship between gun ownership in a country and the actual rates of suicide.
