So Bill, a 1975 start means 37 years I think.I joined in 1978 and left around 1983.

We moved to Manchester in the September 1978.The first weekend we went to Haryy Boardman's Club at the Unicorn. Chris Cole and some others out of Gorton Tank were playing and they announced that Gorton would be dancing on the next day in, I think, Daveyhulme.

We want to watch them and although I had danced Cotswold and seen a lot of Northwest I had seen nothing as exciting as Gorton. I went to practices that winter and stated dancing out quite soon.

I remember short tours of places like Openshaw on a Friday night. 8 dancers and about 6 musicians dancing on the pavement outside pubs and chippies in the dark. It was most dramatic and people did genuinely enjoy the spectical.

I think Chris and Ash Latham did an incredible job teaching and organising gangs of us to do the dances and to get to some amazing venues.

Chris e-mailed me Wedneseday night:

"GMM are holding a reunion on 4th October 2008 to mark the 10th anniversary of the side's demise. The venue will be The Vale Cottage, start time TBA."

Can you make that Bill or are you actually in Perth?

Cheers

Les
