Thread Name: Lyr Req: kids songs about flying, airplanes, etc
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: kids songs about flying, airplanes, etc
As an elementary school Art teacher for the end of this year, my curriculum is quite flexible. It just so happened that I had a kindergarten class for the period after I read Paul's post. So I added that song to the classroom activity {with some changes in words, and adding some motions}

Here's the song as I taught it [I felt that the children didn't "get" the connection with airplanes and the "whoosh, whoosh etc" line, so I changed that line too]..

The Airplane Song {Version #2}

Down at the airport early in the morning
See the big airplanes all in a row.
See the airplane pilot turn on the engine.
Up in the sky, way up high-
Off we go!

-snip-

We clapped hands on the first two lines and added motions to the words "see the big airplanes" {hand above your eyebrows in a looking far away motion-sorry,I can't explain it too well}, and on "all in a row", we pointed to an imaginary row of airplanes. On the line "see the airplane pilot turn on the engine, we pretended to be turning the key to an engine. On the words "off we go!" we jumped up high.

I think this song is a keeper. I'll introduce it this afternoon to another combined kindergarten classes. Since a number of teachers are absent because it's the Memorial Day weekend, two classes are combined together-I just had two 4th grade classes :o(
I did not teach those students that song.

I'll be interested in knowing whether either version {or another version} of this song also worked for your kindergarten class, Animaterra.
