Oh, there are already soffit vents.

To create the gables venting, ridge vent shingle were fastened that anchor to both the fascia board and the roof, overlapping the fascia.

Because the shingle used is a vent shingle, there is a slight gap between the shingle and the fascia (yes, it's been insect-proofed) that allows the house to "breathe."

It kinda give the house a thatched look, too.
