Subject: Kathryn Tickell unusual gig
From today's Arts Diary in The Guardian.

Is it possible to write a piece of music for fiddle, sitar, melodeon and Northumbrian small pipes? And would the result be pleasant to listen to? Four composers - Adam Melvin, Laurence Rose, Nick Redfern and Jonathan Booty - have attempted to do just that, combining Indian and British folk traditions for the Folk from Here project at the Cheltenham music festival next month.

Playing the pipes and leading the group is Kathryn Tickell, who has worked on four Sting albums. Marie Fielding will play fiddle, Jonathan Mayer sitar and Julian Sutton melodeon. "It's all been a bit scary," says Tickell, "for the composers as well as us. If you're into very traditional music, this may not be the concert for you."

Unfortunately, I can't make Cheltenham, but I'm sure someone will report back.
