Re currents: CBC had a short special report on the case, and talked to a current expert in Seattle as well as the BC forensics guy and the police chief - and the couple who found the first foot.

The currents guy said while they could have come from anywhere, down the Fraser River would be his first guess, given where they have washed up. He also said when he has found feet in shoes washed ashore (more common than one would think, apparently), they can often trace the shoe/sneaker to the actual store it came from (serial number on tongue - who knew?), which narrows things down some. The police and forensics guy are not really very forthcoming, understandably, but said DNA retrieved from the first three don't match any missing persons they've been able to check yet. It was noted that decomposition in water made it likely the first foot showed up not much more than a month after the death of the person, which gives a rough estimate on what missing persons it might be.

At one point it was mentioned the number of people who jump off bridges every year in BC - a lot.
