Subject: RE: BS: My Oatmeal Exploded
SINSULL, here is a cool way I've discovered to make oatmeal...and it doesn't get all sticky and yukky, nor does it boil over.

I pour a serving of oatmeal in a bowl just before going to bed at night. On top of that oatmeal I pour rice milk (which I greatly prefer to cow's milk)...until the bowl is full. The bowl of oatmeal stands there overnight and the rice milk soaks into the oatmeal and softens it.

In the morning I get up, brush my teeth and wash up, then I get the bowl of oatmeal, put some honey on top, stir it in, and it's ready to eat.

It's room temperature, totally "cooked" (so to speak), but it has a different consistency from oatmeal that has been boiled, because it doesn't turn all slippery and slimy like the cooked oatmeal does. It's far more palatable, tastes wonderful, and presents absolutely no problem in cleanup of the utensils afterward. No slimy gunk to clean out of the pot. No trouble whatsoever.

I highly recommend this method. If you want your oatmeal hot, though, well, then I guess you could still do this method of mine and just put it in the microwave for a minute.

Keep in mind that food that is not subjected to high temperatures is far higher in vitamins and other good stuff, because high temperatures destroy much (if not most) of the nutritional value in food.
