CLUB SOMETHING
Sunday July 20th at The Grosvenor, London, SW9 0TP

A new monthly folk(ish) night in sarf landan.

Live sets from Spoono, Vixen Mews, Citizen Helene and Matt Milton.

SPOONO
Solo guitar instrumentalist Spoono is a young man following the threads of John Fahey, Davy Graham, Loren Connors, Jack Rose and the rest. Global folk-blues, east-meets-west blues-folk. Call it what you want – he does extremely interesting things with an acoustic guitar.

VIXEN MEWS
Vixen Mews is the vehicle of Dublin singer Laura Hyland and her floating pool of musicians (who feature several musicians from London's free improv and sound art scene). If you can imagine Joni Mitchell jamming with AMM… well, actually that would probably be awful and sound nothing like the electroacoustic tunes and textures of Vixen Mews. Lazy music hacks would probably call it "folktronica" ...

CITIZEN HELENE
Citizen Helene will be first against the wall when the Revolution comes. That is, only if a future Robespierre declares that boundless Brian Wilson obsessions are crimes against the Republic.
Her songs are pure 60s West Coast pop, with some Spector and Motown influences chucked in. She sings sardonic songs about STDs, Stephen Fry, climate change and Tina Turner.

MATT MILTON
Spiritedly inept attempts to play original blues and folk songs, which have strange cut-n-paste lyrics that don't make sense. Often compared to Robyn Hitchcock.
