My wife is somewhat softer on these calls.

The best exchange we had was when she answered a call which asked for me as "Mr Holland". I never use a title, so she thought it was a sales attempt and tried to get the caller to deal with her. The caller insisted they were not selling anything, and must speak to me.

Anne handed the phone to me, and the caller soon began to discuss replacement windows. I said "I'm sorry, but my wife deals with all those things, and you've already refused to talk to her, so you don't have a cat's chance in hell of making a sale".
