Thread Name: BS: Apple Pie = Acid Reflux
Subject: RE: BS: Apple Pie = Acid Reflux
Omaprazole, Pantaprazole and any other PPI will work any time. I regularly forget and only remember about tea time when I get reflux. Take it then and it cuts the reflux straight away. The main thing to remember is that it may not be an instant remedy and can take a few days to effectively inhibit the protons pumps. Once the inhibitors start to work they just need regulat top ups. Oddly enough though with me it started to work the day I began taking it - Maybe I just got lucky! The other stratnge is that the instructions do say avoid taking other indegestion remidies for an hour before and two hours after taking them. Wonder why you would?
A really good alternative to being propped up up bed, and one that is very effective for me, is sleeping on your left side. The stomach is on the left side of the body and it's entrance points right. Which is why reflux can often give heart attack type symptoms. If you lie on your right side the entrance (or exit in this case!) is pointing downwards and with the help of gravity , particularly with a hiatus hernia, will just pour excess acid into your easophagus. Lie on your left side and, unless it overflows, it tends to stay put. Lie on your front or back and it could go either way!
Glad we could be of help and keep that acid down, Alec!
