Thread Name: Review: Government Mule
Subject: RE: Tune Add: Govt Mule
Currently one of my fave raves. Discoverd not too terribly long ago that blues-based power trios (guitar, bass, drums) are what really float my boat, and these guys carry on in the grand old tradition of Cream and ZZ Top, amongst others. As a matter of fact, just a few hours ago I was trying to copy some of Warren Haynes' licks on Gregg Allman's tune Rockin' Horse, off the first album "Gov't Mule," which I like better than "Dose." The snippets I've heard off their new release, "Life After Insanity," sound promising.

Earlier today was reading an interview with Warren Haynes and he said the band is a different band on stage than in the studio. I'd be curious to hear opinions as to how live recordings like "Live At The Roseland Ballroom" stand up to their studio efforts, as I'm not too familiar with their live recordings. I like bands whose standard fare is six- and seven-minute tunes.

One of the few bands I'd actually consider seeing in concert these days, if it weren't for the rowdy biker crowd they're likely to draw. Maybe if they were to play a smaller venue, like 5k or less....
