Thread Name: sexual gestures
Subject: RE: sexual gestures
I'll take *daylia*'s word for it that she is attracted to individual men ONLY on a perfectly sane, sound and reasonable basis. There are many of us who have developed healthy psyches and who are able to make personal choices for only the best of reasons.

But I believe that the article is on to something ~ all my life, I have observed many people, male as well as female, who choose the worst possible individuals as their mates, and I have long believed that built-in unconscious attitudes, resulting from eons of human evolution, are the reason.

The sad fact is that the biological evolution of our bodies ~ including our brains ~ has been progressing much more slowly that the evolution of our societies and of our thinking.

The article addresses built-in, unconscious factors ~ it is not placing blame on individuals, or on women as a group. It is unfortunate that the writer takes a sexist slant and fails to discuss the parallel problems involved in men's unconscious reasons for being attracted to particular types of women.

Men can't help being attracted to women who give off visual and other clues that they are well-suited for childbearing ~ hence the undeniable allure of youth and of prominent "secondary sex characteristics" (i.e., tits and ass). Just as women can't help but be attracted to men who emit signals that they are capable of being powerful and protective in a primitive environment (i.e, physically imposing and quicker to act than to think).

The question for all of us is whether we have enough insight, self-regard, and self-control to make serious choices based primarily on additional considerations, and not ONLY in response to the impulses of our reptile brains.
