Well, there's "Blood Upon the Risers", but that's not the least bit sentimental. There's also the marching "song" that begins "Airborne, Airborne, have you heard?", and it has a stanza that goes like this:
If I die on the ol' drop zone, Box me up and ship me home. Bury me in the leanin' rest, Tell my folks I did my best.
That isn't very close to what you are describing - probably someone else can do better.
