Thread Name: Lyr ADD: I Want to Linger (camp song)^^^
Subject: Lyr Add: I WANT TO LINGER (S Murphy, H Marshall)
I found this at the Lester S. Levy Collection of Sheet Music.

I wonder if it's the ancestor of the camp song? Maybe someone more musically literate than I can tell us whether the tunes are similar. I notice the chorus has rests at the beginning of the measures where the camp-song lyrics have "Mmm." It's easy to see how one could evolve into the other.

I WANT TO LINGER
Words, Stanley Murphy. Music, Henry I. Marshall.
New York: Jerome H. Remick & Co., 1914.

1. Moon am shinin', Lou.
My heart's pinin' too,
Pinin' just for you,
Pinin' just for you,
My little Lou,
'Cause you're so true
That you have won my heart away
With your winnin' way.
Can't you hear me sigh
When it's time for us to say goodbye?

CHORUS: I want to linger,
A little longer,
A little longer, Lou.
See that moon a-shinin' up above.
There's no time like this for making love.
I love your lovin', your lovey lovin'.
I hate a-leavin' you.
Let me linger just a little,
Little longer with you,
Little longer with you.

2. Spring am comin' soon.
Flow'rs will be in bloom,
And the mellow moon,
Shinin' out in June,
Will hear us croon
A lovin' tune,
And then we'll stroll through lover's lane,
Near the sugar cane,
To a cabin new,
That I been a-buildin' just for you.
