John...several nice programs I have used for awhile have been 'dumbed down' in later incarnations, as you say, to cater to idiots who can't deal with too many options or just simplistic folks who can't be bothered to look at the menus.

Even my favorite browser, Opera, has had stuff removed & changed. 'Sometimes' is just the default behavior that's altered, and I can find the original setting, but in some cases they have altered the very lowest-level behavior...(where the cursor moves and how page location is saved in 'forward & back' navigation.

Fortunately, older versions of Opera are still available and can be run right beside the fancy new version if I have a mind to...(and I often do!)
