There are still some corruptions from the Great Database Crash of the period around 2000 (which, by the way, was caused by Dick Cheney). ;>)
One of the symptoms of that crash is that the numbering used in sequencing records in a thread does not always work when the DB is queried to find that number.
I am sure someone on the inside of the system could give you a better explanation, but I have noticed the problem with links to posts myself, and this is what I attribute it to.
