Actually, there is a way to shut them up. Have their vocal cords removed..
I've never liked little yappy snappy imitation dogs, but my brother just got a Lasa Apso or a Shitzu don't know which, and it is the funniest, cutist, friendlyist little thing. I couldn't believe he would ever go for such a "dog" after owning a Lab, but he did.
Many years ago, he wrung a poodle's neck then blew its brains out for picking cat turds out of the litter box and eating them on the living room carpet !!!

Of course, that was not the only incident, just the last straw.
