The Catholic church down the block (mostly white) sings gospel and has gospel choir visitors on occassion.

Last time I was in New Orleans, gospel choirs were singing in the cathedral on Jackson Square. We went three times, and each time the audience was very large - and very appreciative.

Any instrument is fine as long as everybody remembers that the purpose of the gathering is to encourage people to think, rejoice, pray, learn, contemplate.
