Thread Name: MUDCATEERS IN ALASKA???
Subject: RE: MUDCATEERS IN ALASKA???
I have some chums in Soldotna who usually work in the Denali/Kantishna area in the summer. I'll try to check if they're doing that this year - they'd have room for you in a tent or RV and they really know the territory. They are not Mudcatters because they have not yet tuned in to the net, but one in particular is heavily tuned into Mudcat music.
Have you got the Alaska Bicycle Touring Guide, published by Denali Press? Also John McPhee wrote a maagnificent book about Alaska called Coming Into the Country. IF you haven't found it already, it really is worth reading.
I pedalled about 2,000 miles in Alaska a couple of years ago. I can't think of anywhere I've been that made a bigger impression, and I'll certainly be back - despite a guilty coscience about us tourists screwing up the world's last natural ecosystems outside the polar regions.
You're going to have a real adventure - just a pity you won't be there longer. Send me a personal message if you have any queries I might be able to help with before you go, or if you care to compare notes afterwards.
