If you shove mp3's onto a CD as an audio CD, you end up with the same space taken up as if they were WAV files, because they'll be turned into CD tracks. If, however, you use the CDROM purely as a file storage medium, you'll get a lot more mp3 tracks than WAV tracks, but you won't be able to play them on a device that only plays audio CDs.
