Is it a "troop" of chimps, or a "troupe" of chimps? And if it's "troupe", isn't that just the French way of spellingg "troop"?

Of course, we could circumvent the issue entirely and just call it a "shitload" of chimps. "Shitload" works for pretty much anything.
