Nothing new about that. Mort Sahl tried to continue has political comedy into the Johnson administration and was kicked in the teeth for it. He essentially had to retire, but returned when Nixon was in office. He said that Democrats aren't funny because they take themselves too seriously.

He said he came back with his comedy act because, as a source of material, Nixon was just "too good to be pass up".
