Thread Name: chords for 'mermaid' & 'stoutest man'
Subject: RE: chords for 'mermaid' & 'stoutest man'
The Stoutest Man In the Forty Twa appears in The Scottish Folksinger (Norman Buchan & Peter Hall, Collins 1973/8); no author is named, but it's credited as "from the singing of John Strachan". Pre- Ian Bruce, I should think. Chords are given; I haven't tried to do this before -not being a guitarist- so I'll use the method described by Walter Corey, and elaborated on by Alan of Australia in the recent thread Adding Chords to songs
Behold I am a soldier bold, and only twenty five years old (G -C -G) A braver warrior never was seen fae Inverness tae Gretna Green. (C- G -C -G -D7) When I was young my father said he wad pit me tae a decent trade, (C -G -C -G) But I didnae like that job at a', so I went and joined the Forty Twa. (C -G -C -G -D7 -G)
