I used to watch a program on one of the satellite channels called Clean House. It is kind of torturous to watch, it is amazing how much worse those houses are than mine ever has been. But -- occasionally -- they do one that hits home. The woman in graduate school with books and paper got to me. I recorded it, and I think it's still on the DVR. Another had to do with inherited items the woman couldn't let go of. I should go rewatch them. They touch on, in a non-clinical way, the mental process behind hoarding or not letting go. Pass some of Don Aslett's books over this and you can find permission to discard whatever you need to. If you can do it in a responsible, beneficial way, all the better.
