Thread Name: Timeraire ???
Subject: RE: Timeraire ???
That would be "Téméraire", as in Turner's painting The Fighting Téméraire.  You can see the painting at  The Web Gallery of Art.  There's a poem by Herman Melville,  The Fighting Téméraire,  and an article by Terri Weldy,  19th Century England,  which has some background information setting the painting in context.  The Téméraire had been at the Battle of the Nile and, under Captain Eliab Harvey, famously went to Nelson's assistance at the Battle of Trafalgar.  The ship was broken up at Rotherhithe on the Thames in 1838; Turner showed it being taken there by a steam-tug.
