Obama made a number of references to the importance of protecting water and pursuing renewable energy.

"If you want renewable energy and new green jobs right here in Colorado, if you want a president who will protect our environment and make sure that water is still falling in the places that need it here in Colorado, . . . then I ask you to start knocking on doors," he said.

That impressed many attendees.

"He went to some local issues like water," said retired environmental scientist Frank Nemanich. "I think it's really great to see someone come to western Colorado and do that."
