The UK service does work - mind you having an ex-directory number from the day I moved in was just as good. And relying on an answer machine helps. They still try all number they don't have and see if anyone answers. One kept ringing all weekend and finally found me.

What I can't understand is the companies I deal with like utilities and credit card where they happily ring up and start selling. And in the wake of my tirade to them they are totally unrepentant, even in writing. All they had to do was consult the list before ringing me. It would instruct them on my attitude. They know they lost my custom.
