I just remembered that I had some success with using a human hairbrush, fairly close natural bristle, to get lint pills from an acrylic cheap blanket off an old and fragile wool blanket. The trick was in brushing slowly across sections of the blanket, using a gentle 'lifting' motion - hard to descibe.
