yes but you are right , and a little more on the bass side than the treble side as well ( normally) , and how much depends on the height of the action and the thickness of the strings, but the 12th fret is appr. the middle of the string , and if you messure it when it is pressed down , then it is the exact distance.... but now let us not go too much into details....
