In all the years I've played guitar, I only broke one string, and it was the G. That was on my old Gibson D 45.
I've never broken a string on my Taylor, and I think I lean on it pretty hard. Some bluegrass picker is always borrowing it and they really get on it, still, no broken strings. Maybe Martins are built that way so they can sell you their over priced strings? :-)
