If memory serves on this (and I'm not spending time to look it up) that bailout guaranteed Chrysler's loans so they could continue in business. No federal money ever was used as Chrysler was able to turn around, no longer needing the guarantee.

I also believe (not researching this either) that M-B bought Chrysler some years after the guarantees ended. Not a swift business deal for them, as it turned out.
