I've had lots of catheters inserted and removed, never had any sort of anaesthetic. They usually slap some sort of slippery stuff on it to make it slide up the one-eyed snake a bit easier. It's a bit uncomfortable when it goes in, but it's wonderful when it comes out.

Likewise, I never had a problem swallowing the gadget (without the throat-numbing spray, BTW) when I had my numerous laproscopies, but I gagged every time as it came out.

Although what any of this has to do with shivering after a slash is beyond me.

I shiver when I'm dying for a pee but there's no bog available.
