I just listened to it, and according to Simon's introduction, the song IS a true story, about one of the last group of people to be publically executed en masse in Culworth. One other thing is that on all the Swarbrick/Nicol/Fairport versions I have, there is another verse at the end. Going to look in the DT to see if its there, otherwise, I'll post.
