It could even be argued that the really important manifestations of history are not all that war related, though certainly violence was involved. E.g. the discovery of agriculture; the rise of cities; bronze, iron, steel; the catastrophic plague of the 1350s; the staggering disease mortality of the New World; etc., etc.

The most important single event of our times is the loss of species worldwide. The effects will last for millions of years. Doesn't show up in presidential debates for some funny reason.
