Subject: RE: Tech: Make a link open in new window in Mudcat
"If I create links on my website to performers, I am trying to keep my website open. I don't want to lose viewers."

I see the point, but if I like a web site, I make bookmarks for it, and even keep it open in a new tab semi-permanently. To decide that I need to be snagged, herded, maneuvered or trapped by clever HTML and javascript does bother me.

When I was a lot newer at this, I sometimes visited sites that had no way to go 'back', even if you were NOT in a new window. It seems they inserted a blank 're-direct' page between me & 'back', so I was continuously trapped. I have since learned how to use the drop-down menu under 'back'to return to any previous link in a series (bypassing the 'blank' page), and newer browsers make this easier.

So, even if I enjoy a site a LOT, I wish it to be my decision how long to stay and when to return. Site owners who want lots of traffic can do themselves a favor by making it as interesting as possible, with as few tricks & gadgets as possible. (Like background music playing as soon as I arrive, instead of allowing ME to decide whether and when to play it...)

Opinionated? *smile* me? Yep...just a bit...
