The city announced about a year ago that Costco was going to open here. The land had been purchased. Then it was announced that the permits had been issued. Then bulldozers and stuff like that started moving dirt and rocks around.

Know what?

Some people said that the city was doing all that to make it look like Costco was coming. Costco was really going to build in Idaho Falls, 50 miles north of here.

Then the building started to go up.

Same rumor. Like the city could afford to build something of 94,000 sq. ft., ya know?

Finally, a couple months ago the sign went up. Parking lots were paved. People were hired.

Same rumor.

Costco opened today. I guess when I was in there for the "open house" last night I wasn't in a real Costco store, at least not one in this town. It was all a fake, ya know?

The point is, some people will say anything and sometimes they even believe it -- until reality hits them square in the nose.
