Thread Name: Lyr Req: Agnes on the Cowcatcher/Roll On Jamaica
Subject: Lyr Req: Agnes on the Cowcatcher
Agnes on the Cowcatcher is a Tanglefoot song, I'm told, done in a medly with another tune (possibly instrumental) Roll On Jamaica (which I think is a reference to the name of a train. (I searched the database for both.)
It's about Lady Agnes MacDonald, Canada's first first-lady who, when going through the Rocky Mountains insisted on riding on the cowcatcher to take in the full splendour of the land.
I'd only learned about that last year when I went to the Rockies with my sister. Imagine my when I was showing some of my American friends photos from the trip and one had a black & white cut out of Lady Agnes and before I said anything about the picture my friend exclaimed 'it's Agnes on the cowcatcher!' I was flabbergasted, and they told me about the song.
I know I can track down the CD, but until I have new bifocals it would be lovely if someone could supply the lyrics. And it would be new for Mudcat. (Chords are always a bonus.)
By the by, this a delightful side. I'm new here. Those same friends who knew about Agnes put me on to it.
