Bob (Deckman) called me this morning to tell me this sad news. It is indeed sad. Although I only knew Stan for 7 or 8 years, I enjoyed his easy-going camaraderie, his knowledge of folk songs, some quite obscure, and the way he sang them, his tales of his early work on the restoration of the Wawona and the folk music coffeehouse venues he ran in the '60s in Seattle.

I enjoyed the times my wife and I joined with Stan to sing at the retirement home on Vashon Island, and the times he came to our house jams and other music events, and Rainy Camp and the Seattle Song Circle where I first met him. All that will be sorely missed. But they are good memories. Another bit of the folk music history of Seattle is gone with him. Yes, that is sad.
